Statement:Prohibition of a CMODH intern training

The Coordination Maghrébine des Organisations des Droits Humains (CMODH), in coordination with its two Algerian league members, the Ligue Algérienne de Défense des Droits de l’Homme (LADDH) and the Ligue Algérienne des Droits de l’Homme (LADH), organized a training of trainers for the benefit of the member associations, during the weekend of the 11, 12 and 13th December 2015 in Alger. This training was part of the KHOTWA project, which comprises several meetings in different Maghreb countries.

For this reason, the two Algerian leagues began the necessary demands to carry out this action, according to the normal procedure.

The participants from different Maghrebian countries (Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia and Maghreb NGO representatives of the immigration in France) were surprised by the presence of representatives of public authorities forbidding them access to the room where the meeting was planned to be hold. All that, despite all clarifications and explanations provided by the organizers about the nature and objectives of this Maghrebian meeting.

Having used all possible ways of communication to negotiate and persuade, and facing an unjustified persistence of interdiction of the activity, the CMODH and the two Algerian leagues, strongly indignated,

Condemn the arbitrary attitude of the Algerian authorities in the context of the International Human Rights Day, insisting to forbide an internal training of Maghrebian human rights defenders which aim was to realize a trainer of trainers of strengthening advocacy and awareness skills and social transformation, according to the Algerian law.

Denounce the hesitations of the Algerian authorities with our partners of the NGO NOVACT, regarding their visa demands addressed to the Algerian Consulate in Barcelona and Madrid.

Regret this prohibition which is contrary to the engagements of the Algerian State regarding human rights, that uncovers the false approach regarding democracy and human rights defended by its government.

Announce their determination to pursue and reinforce the struggle in favor of the human rights and freedom, stating that repression and intimidation politics will not dissuade them of keep fighting and contributing to the noble mission of building a united Maghreb without frontiers, of rights and freedoms.
