Within the framework of our joint work with the Palestinian Circus School, in the project “Badil. Preventing violent extremism in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. An approach based on Human Rights and peace building“, we support the organization of the “Palestine Circus Festival 2020”, reinforcing the resilience of young Palestinians to violent extremist narratives through the arts of circus, dance and theater.
This year’s edition incorporates 8 new circus shows created and performed by Palestinian artists in the context of the Covid19 pandemic. Although its celebration was scheduled for the period from November 26th to December 6th in the Palestinian cities of Ramallah, Birzeit, Tulkarem, Nablus, Jenin and Hebron, within the Occupied Palestinian Territory of the West Bank, the new measures against the pandemic announced today, November 23rd 2020, by the Palestinian Authority, in the face of an increase in new detected cases, have forced to postpone its realization, pending new official announcements on the evolution of Covid19 in Palestine.
This festival has been designed and organized in coordination with other cultural and circus organization in each one of hte different palestinian cities, like The Freedom theatre and cultural centre in the Jenin Refugee camp; the Assirk Assaghir – Nablus Circus School, and the Al-Kasaba Theatre and Cinematheque in Ramallah.
Aong with all of them, the most appropriate periods and spaces have been defined to ensure the celebration of the festival in safe spaces – where both protective measures and locations that allow social distance will be applied – and through which the attendance of young people in each area is being promoted, including those youth from rural areas and refugee camps.
