Amb la beca DevReporter, expliquem històries d’esperança des del Kurdistan i Síria
This week, we launched The Hope League, a community football initiative aimed at strengthening collective bonds, promoting coexistence, and preventing conflicts and radicalisation processes in northern and eastern Syria and in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
As part of this project, and thanks to the DevReporter grant, we will produce a documentary that will allow us to share this reality and the concrete impact of this transformative initiative. With the support of the European Union, the Catalan Government’s Directorate General for Development Cooperation, Lafede.cat, and Connect For Global Change, this audiovisual story aims to shift how we understand and communicate conflict and peacebuilding.
The Hope League was born with a clear purpose: we do not want to focus solely on suffering and denunciation, but instead highlight the solutions. Non-competitive football becomes a real tool for cohesion, reconciliation, and peace. This approach is taking root in communities across Syrian and Iraqi Kurdistan, where young people from different backgrounds meet on the pitch to build trust and social cohesion.
Through the documentary, we aim to spark a shift in public communication in Catalonia. We are turning the narrative around: from a victimising lens to one of transformation. Bridging the gap between seemingly distant conflicts and our everyday lives is key. That’s why we want to bring these stories of hope to the centre of public discourse, especially by engaging youth who are often left out of Global Justice movements.
