This August, Collserola’s farmers are looking for 150 families and community groups to prevent the harvest from going to waste

When August arrives, many people leave the city for their holidays. Collserola’s market gardens, however, continue producing seasonal fruit and vegetables at the same pace. This mismatch between the farming calendar and the city’s holiday season means that part of the harvest risks going to waste if there are not enough people to consume it.

To prevent this, LaRural has launched a campaign to reach 150 families and community groups during August, helping agroecological vegetable boxes reach households, organisations and consumer groups across Barcelona.

From the fields to the city

The campaign is part of Food that Cares for the Territory, a project led by NOVACT with the support of Barcelona City Council. The initiative strengthens short food supply chains by connecting agroecological farmers, distributors, local shops and collection points so that food travels fewer kilometres and reaches consumers directly.

By choosing these vegetable boxes, people not only support Collserola’s farmers but also help reduce intermediaries, cut emissions associated with food transport and sustain a farming model that is deeply rooted in the local territory.

How to take part

The campaign is open to both individuals and organisations, including cooperatives, neighbourhood communities and groups interested in organising collective purchases or becoming collection points.
