NOVACT joins the European mobilisation against militarisation on June 14 in Brussels

On June 14, NOVACT will take part in the European mobilisation taking place in Brussels under the slogan “Welfare, not Warfare”, led by the Stop Rearm Europe campaign together with the Belgian platform Stop Militarisation. The call aims to put people at the centre in the face of rising military spending across Europe.

The demonstration will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Brussel-Noord station (Brussels North) and will bring together organisations and social movements from across Europe, in a context marked by the escalation of armed conflicts, the erosion of international law, and a growing reliance on militarisation as a political response.

A week of mobilisation to shift priorities

Alongside the Brussels demonstration, a decentralised week of action will take place across Europe from June 14 to 21. The aim is to extend this mobilisation to local contexts and reinforce a shared demand: to reduce military spending and invest instead in health, education, decent work, climate action, and social protection.

The campaign also calls for respect for international law, disarmament, and a clear commitment to diplomacy and cooperation as ways to address conflicts.

NOVACT joins this mobilisation as part of a broader network of organisations working on nonviolent approaches and the defence of human rights, at a time when strengthening alternatives to militarisation and investing in peacebuilding from civil society is more urgent than ever.
