Transparency and accountability of police forces in Spain
Exchange experiences and generate debate around transparency, oversight, and accountability mechanisms in cases of excessive use of force by the police and its impact on discriminatory situations and the exercise of the right to protest.

The event will also serve to present the research conducted by the three organizations regarding both formal and informal mechanisms of transparency and accountability of Public Administrations in police actions.
The event, organized by Novact, along with Irídia and Rights International Spain (RIS), will consist of a total of 7 round tables where experts, representatives of Public Administrations, and members of civil society organizations will exchange experiences and generate debate around the mechanisms of transparency, surveillance, and accountability in cases of excessive use of force by the police and its impact on discriminatory situations and the exercise of the right to protest.
The various talks and round tables will take place in Classroom 1 of the ICAB (Barcelona Bar Association) located at 283 Mallorca Street throughout Thursday, October 6, and the morning of Friday, October 7. In addition, they can be followed live online with simultaneous translation.
The event will also serve to present the research carried out by the three organizations regarding both formal and informal mechanisms of transparency and accountability of Public Administrations in police actions. The research conducted for this report has included the creation of focus groups and the conduction of 32 semi-structured interviews with experts, civil society representatives, individuals affected by police violence, as well as police representatives, legal practitioners, and members of other institutions involved, such as the Ombudsman and its territorial counterparts.
