Tunisia suspends the activities of the Tunisian Human Rights League, Nobel Peace Prize laureate

The Novact Institute for Nonviolence expresses its solidarity and support for the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH), following the decision to suspend its activities for one month.

The LTDH is one of the most prominent human rights organizations in the Arab and African regions, and an international reference in the protection of rights. It was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015 as part of the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet.

This suspension takes place in a context of increasing pressure and restrictions on Tunisian civil society, particularly targeting organizations that defend civic space and civil and political freedoms.

From Novact, we denounce this criminalization and the attempts to silence independent organizations. This is a highly concerning situation that puts the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms at risk.

Despite this context, civil society organizations continue to play a key role in protecting people’s rights and defending freedoms in Tunisia.
