The report “Voices breaking free from the repression. Human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara documented during 2023” is the result of a collective work between Sahrawi human rights defenders, coordinated by ACAPS and NOVACT with the support of international researchers and experts in the field.

Through the work of the group of sahrawi observers and the direct observation of violations in the occupied territories, the report documents with rigour and precision the violations of civil and political rights that occurred in 2023, highlighting a total of 133 violations against the Saharawi people. It highlights the repression against sahrawi activist and human rights defenders, the lack of political freedoms and the degrading treatment of Sahrawi political prisoners. It also highlights the impunity and systematic repression imposed by Morocco, as well as the difficulty of documenting these abuses due to the restrictions and illegal ocupation of the territory.
