Rizoma 2025: A Week of Learning, Exchange and Collective Reflection in Tunis
From 7 to 12 September 2025, NOVACT held the seventh edition of Rizoma in Tunis, bringing together 18 young participants for a week of training, field visits and collective learning. This edition took place in the framework of NesTounes (funded by the European Union and the Swiss Embassy) and Momkin (funded by ACCD).
NesTounes works to promote an informed, inclusive and pluralistic public space in Tunisia by strengthening media coverage of social, economic and cultural rights. Momkin supports young people, civil society organisations and social movements as agents of nonviolent conflict transformation and peacebuilding.
In this context, Rizoma 2025 focused on media practices, socio-economic and cultural rights, and on cultural, artistic and community initiatives as tools to transform societies towards nonviolence and justice.
Throughout the week, the group visited a wide range of organisations, including LTDH, TuniFact, SNJT, Nawaat, ATFD, Ado+, RSF, El Qatiba, Calam, Shanti and Mass’Art. Participants also met twice with the World Sumud Flotilla and engaged in a dedicated session on Western Sahara, which opened an important space for dialogue on a frequently underreported issue.
Collective Experience and Shared Learning
Rizoma 2025 stood out for the diversity of perspectives within the group and the richness of the exchanges. Sessions combined practical learning, emotional reflection, debates and hands-on activities, creating a safe space to share experiences and explore different approaches to activism, media work and community engagement.
